It is possible to find meaning in the midst of loss or trauma.
When you are navigating grief, loss, or trauma, every feeling is valid.
You may be feeling overwhelmed with “normal” day-to-day tasks, inadequate or shameful, or unable to express your emotions as a result of what you have experienced. Many people wonder if these challenges are normal, especially with others telling them they should be “over it” by now. I believe there is no timeline on grief or healing, and I offer you a space to unload the emotion you are feeling, so it’s not so heavy throughout the day.
If you or your child is experiencing the impact of trauma or loss, I’ll meet you with respect, empathy, and freedom from judgment. As your therapist, my role isn’t to offer wisdom—it is to guide you toward connecting with the wisdom that’s already inside of you. I’ll support you in developing coping skills, finding meaning in the midst of loss or trauma, and creating the life you want to live.
Therapy with me is all about what works for you: we’ll incorporate creative techniques such as sandtray and play therapy, storytelling, and mythology in order to create a plan that guides you to the healing you deserve.
I have received specialized training in sandtray and play therapy. Sandtray therapy is a non-verbal expressive style of therapy that facilitates communication through symbols and pictures in the sand. This process enables emotionally charged issues to be processed in a safe and controlled way and is applicable for individuals across the lifespan. I am also skilled in play therapy—a method I generally use with children and adolescents that employs various modes of play to foster social integration, personal growth, emotional regulation, and trauma resolution.
In addition to my clinical work, I have conducted extensive research into the relationships between psychology, storytelling, and mythology. I have also authored several chapters discussing the intersection of pop culture and psychology including Star Wars Psychology: The Dark Side of the Mind, Game of Thrones Psychology: The Mind is Dark and Full of Terrors, Wonder Woman Psychology: Lassoing the Truth, and Daredevil Psychology: The Devil You Know. I believe that powerful narratives can heal and that stories and myths play an integral part in our individual and cultural Psychology.
